Customers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Tamil Nadu can make and receive calls without a SIM card with the launch of Wings services on July 25. It facilitates Internet telephony through its Next Generation Network technology of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
At a press conference on Thursday, R. Marshal Antoy Leo, chief general manager, BSNL Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle, said Wings is a kind of app-based fixed mobile telephony voice service. BSNL customers can make or receive calls within and outside the network either from their laptops or mobiles.
The VoIP is provided through the Packet Switching Technology without a SIM card and all that the customer has to do is to download the Wings app and link to any wi-fi connection with it. The Wings service could be registered on any computer, laptop or mobile phone and would entail a one-time fee of ₹1,099 per year. The activation process has also been simplified. A 10-digit number would be allotted. Once the number is submitted, again a 16 digit PIN will be sent to the customer through mail for self-activation.
Customers could then activate the services by logging on to portal www.bsnl.co.in .
