Chennai Metro Rail has opened another entry point to the Central Metro station, near the Moore Market Complex. A subway, closed for construction of the station, was also reopened, after it was renovated and linked to the new entry point.

What this means is that passengers from the Park railway station can use the subway and enter the Central Metro station without having to come to the road level or heading to the Moore Market Complex.

According to the Chennai Metro Rail officials, another entry to the Central Metro station will be opened in the coming months. Unlike other Chennai Metro Rail stations that have four entry points, the Central Metro station alone will have six. Both the subway and the new entry point are equipped with escalators.

“We are in the process of installing the lift and it will be finished soon,” an official said. At present, nearly 3,000 people use the Central Metro station.

While passengers are happy that the subway and new entry point are operational, they feel more signs and staff will be of help. Achuthan R., who lives in Nanganallur, said, “It took me a few minutes to find the entry point of the subway. It was certainly convenient to use the renovated subway but they need to either install more signages or have some personnel stationed, ready to help commuters.”
