New buildings for Tambaram and Selaiyur registrar offices

They will be built at an estimated cost of ₹1.08 crore

New buildings for the integrated registrar offices of Tambaram and Selaiyur would soon be built at an estimated cost of ₹1.08 crore. Laying the foundation stone for the new buildings in Rajakilpakkam, Minister for Commercial Taxes, K.C. Veeramani said new initiatives taken by the Registration Department had earned increased revenue for the exchequer.

He said the procedures for land registration had been simplified and people had to go to the registrar offices only after an SMS confirmation about the completion of the processes involved.

Registration Department officials said a resolution to this effect was passed at a Sembakkam Municipal council meeting in 2016, apportioning a land measuring 2,100 square feet for the purpose. The Revenue Department officials passed an order to allocate land inside the municipal limits, a few months earlier.

According to Registration Department officials, the Tambaram sub-registrar office functions on MES Road at the first floor of a rented building. The Selaiyur sub-registrar office functions at the ground floor of a rented building at Bharatha Matha Street in East Tambaram.

New software

The latest initiatives such as introducing new software for registration of land documents has helped reduce the waiting time of investors at the SROs. He said applicants seeking registration of documents should register their mobile phone number in the website https://tnreginet.gov.in. Each stage in the process of registration would be conveyed to the applicant though an SMS. “If a rejection certificate was not provided by the authority concerned, the toll-free number 18001025174 could be used to file a complaint with the Inspector General of Registration,” he added.
