Multiplexes and theatres on the route that Chinese President Xi Jinping will take to reach Mamallapuram will remain closed on Friday.
“PVR, that has a five-screen on ECR, will remain closed on Friday. Most theatres on the belt will resume operations only after 4 p.m. on Saturday,” a source from the film fraternity said.
He added that Mayajaal Entertainment would also remain closed on Friday. Mayajaal’s website did not allow bookings for Friday, and for the first half of Saturday.
Many restaurants have indicated that they would not be functioning until the Chinese President’s event concludes.
A restaurant owner said people would not move out of their houses, considering the heavy police bandobast. “So it does not make sense for us to keep our businesses open,” he said.
Another hotelier said: “I have decided to keep the shutters closed and serve food through the back door. I can’t afford to close for a full day,” he said, and added that most hotels were closing voluntarily. A hotel industry source said there were over 500 big and small restaurants that are along the East Coast and Old Mahabalipuram Roads.
