After receiving complaints from commuters at the Koyambedu bus terminus, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has shifted the entry point for its buses to ease congestion.

With the flyover work in progress in front of the CMBT, on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, traffic congestion has become acute, especially during peak hours.

MTC buses were being held up in the congestion for several minutes, causing severe hardship to commuters, many of whom complained that they were missing connecting buses.

C. Raghavan, a resident of Nanganallur, said it took more than 20 to 30 minutes for the MTC buses to reach the bus terminus.

A senior official of the MTC said the flyover work was holding up their buses from Vadapalani for several minutes. Drivers and conductors had also complained to the management about the trip timings going haywire.

Wall demolished

Till now, both entry and exit bays were at one place, near the Kalaiamman Koil Street junction.

After discussing this with the traffic police, MTC officials, last week, shifted the entrance to the bus terminus, by demolishing a portion of the compound wall.

MTC buses are now moving in and out of the terminus easily, the MTC official added.
