‘Clear the path for us’

Mindless parking eats into a section of R.K. Mutt Road

Haphazard and illegal parking on a stretch of Ramakrishna Math Road is hindering free flow of traffic. From the intersection of Ramakrishna Math Road and School Road in Mandaveli, on both sides of the road, vehicles are parked haphazardly.

The motorists don’t even spare the pavements, causing hardship to pedestrians who have no choice but walk on the carriageway, squeezing themselves through the vehicles, risking their lives. Motorists heading towards Foreshore Estate and Greenways Road most often come at a great speed further increasing the risk of collisions on this stretch.

It’s not just illegal parking that has eaten up road space and pavements. A few commercial establishments have usurped the walkers’ path to display their wares.

Autorickshaw drivers, cyclists and two-wheelers come in the wrong direction, adding to the chaos on the stretch.

B. Vijay, a resident of Mandaveli, said, “Pedestrians have to be vigilant as motorists come too close to them. It is an ordeal to walk through this road.”

Residents have requested traffic police to clear the path for pedestrians.
