Metro Rail closes in on Anna Salai

Traffic police will be making changes to the flow of traffic in Nandanam and T. Nagar due to Chennai Metro Rail construction work in three locations on Anna Salai between Anna Flyover and Nadanam junction. The changes will come into force from 7 a.m. on Saturday.

According to a press release, the existing diversions on Eldams Road will be shifted to Nandanam junction. One lane will be dedicated for MTC buses only, on the western side of Anna Salai from Nandanam junction up to Anna Flyover. Other motorists coming from Saidapet will be diverted at Nandanam junction to take the route via Venkatnarayana Road, South Boag Road, North Boag Road and GN Chetty Road to reach Anna Salai.

The stretch on Venkatnarayana Road from Anna Salai up to South Boag Road will be made a one-way with entry from Anna Salai and no entry from Venkatnarayana Road - South Boag Road junction.

The stretch on Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Road and North Boag Road will be made a one-way with entry at Venkatnarayana Road and no entry from GN Chetty Road. On GN Chetty Road, the stretch between North Boag Road up to Gemini Flyover will be made a one-way with entry from GN Chetty Road - North Boag Road junction and no entry from Sunder Street junction. Sunder Street will be reversed and made a one-way with entry from GN Chetty Road and no entry from Anna Salai.

Existing traffic movement on Vijayaraghava Road and Theyagaraya Road (both ways) will continue. The existing one-way on North Boag Road (Ma Po Si junction) will be reversed and vehicles will be allowed from Ma.Po.Si junction towards Vijayaraghava Road.

Motorists coming from Saidapet towards T. Nagar are advised to take the link road near Periyar building via CIT Nagar roundabout, Moopparappan Street, Burkit Road and then take a left to Venkatnarayana Road to reach Panagal Park.

Except for MTC buses, all motorists coming from Saidapet and going towards Gemini Flyover will be diverted at Nandanam junction to take the route via Venkatnarayana Road, Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Road (South Boag Road), Ma.Po.Si junction, North Boag Road, G.N. Chetty Road and Anna Flyover to reach Anna Salai.

Motorists coming from Panagal Park going towards Chamiers Road at Burkit Road junction are to take the route via Thanikachalam Road – Theyagaraya Road, Anna Salai, Cenotaph Road to Chamiers Road. Motorists coming from Eldams Road towards Gemini Flyover should take the route via Theyagaraya Road, a right turn at Ma.Po.Si Junction, North Boag Road, G.N. Chetty Road and then reach Anna Salai.

Motorists coming from Kotturpuram Bridge towards Gemini Flyover should take the route via Cenotaph Road, turn left to Anna Salai and take a right turn at Nandanam Junction to Venkatnarayana Road, Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Road, Ma.Po.Si junction, North Boag Road, G.N. Chetty Road and reach Anna Flyover.

Motorists coming from Saidapet towards K.B. Dasan Road should take the route via Venkatnarayana Road, South Boag Road, Ma.Po.Si junction and take a right into Theyagaraya Road, a right at Anna Salai and proceed to K.B. Dasan Road.

Motorists from G.N. Chetty Road taking a right turn into North Boag road will be restricted.

They should take the route via Vanimahal, Dr. Nair Road, Theyagaraya Road and take a left turn at Ma.Po.Si junction to reach North Boag Road. Motorists on Theyagaraya Road proceeding towards South Boag Road at Ma.Po.Si Junction will be restricted. They can take the route via Thanikachalam Road or Anna Salai.

Motorists are restricted from using the dedicated bus lane from Nandanam junction to Anna Flyover. However, persons going to various establishments on the western side of Anna Salai will be permitted on small stretches of the bus lane to reach their establishments. To facilitate this, six entries point will be kept open on the bus lane.
