Medical admissions to be subject to HC order

June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Medical college admissions for the forthcoming academic year would be subject to the result of petitions in the Madras High CourtHearing a batch of petitions on Friday, Justice M. Sathyanarayanan said the consideration of students who had passed Class 12 last academic year or earlier years was subject to the results of these petitions and further posted the cases for July 8.

Parents of several students in their petitions have submitted that less number of students secured centum in major subjects during the latest Class 12 exams across the State compared to last year, and if students who passed the exams earlier were allowed to participate in the medical admissions, it would be a grave injustice to the former.

They further contended that the way the marks obtained in an entrance exam conducted for certain courses in one year cannot be used for the succeeding years for securing admission.

Referring to a GO dated June 6, 2005, which abolished the common entrance exam for admissions to professional courses in the State, the petitioners said the objective of the order was to protect the interest of the students and ensure that they were not vexed with repeated exams.

The petitioners further sought for a direction to authorities to confine counselling for MBBS/BDS to students who passed Class 12 in 2014-15 only.
