Surendran attacked Thenmozhi and jumped in front of train

The man who attacked a woman in Chetpet railway station and attempted to end his life by jumping in front of a train on June 14 died in the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital on Friday.

Thenmozhi, 26, a government staff, was assaulted by Surendran, 27, at the Chetpet railway station.

The accused, after a heated argument with the victim, had slashed her with a long knife and then jumped before a moving train. They were admitted in the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital and Government Kilpauk College Hospital with grievous injuries.

A senior official of the Government Railway Police said Thenmozhi was undergoing treatment while Surendran died on Friday after 3 p.m. The post-mortem is expected to be completed on Saturday, the official added. The GRP Egmore had registered a case under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) and Section 4 (Harassment of woman) of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act against Surendran.
