The robbery case in Ambattur Estate police station limits has been solved with the arrest of four persons and recovery of ₹72 lakh from them.

The police control room received a call around 1 p.m. on Sunday about a robbery near a sports showroom in Maduravoyal-Puzhal bypass. The police rushed to the spot and enquired with the victim, S. Vijayakumar, of Padi, who works with a steel company in Maduravoyal. He was going to Kodungaiyur on his motorcycle carrying ₹82.50 lakh cash that belonged to his company to be handed over to Rafiq.

When he was near the showroom, three persons riding a motorcycle knocked him down. They attacked him with a knife and robbed him of the cash and fled the spot. Avadi Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore constituted four special teams to trace the accused.

After analysing the CCTV footage, the police traced the motorcycle used by the suspects based on the registration number. The owner of the motorcycle in Chengalpattu told the police that the three borrowed the motorcycle from him for personal use. The police team apprehended Damal alias Dhanush and Appu alias Srikanth. Based on their confession, the police arrested their accomplices Chandru in Pallikaranai and Subramani in Maduravoyal.

Subramani is a collection agent with the steel company. In December 2021, he was arrested for robbing an employee of his company of ₹5 lakh. In prison, he developed contact with Appu who was arrested on charges of drug peddling. Subramani had shared with Appu the information on how the money is taken from the steel company to Kodungaiyur. They hatched a robbery plan while in prison. On Sunday, Subramani, Appu along with his cousin Damal and his friend Chandru followed Vijayakumar on motorcycle and waylaid him.

The four accused were arrested by the police team. The police recovered ₹72 Lakh from Prema, mother of Appu. Mr. Rathore has lauded the special team for its swift action.
