With World Water Day round the corner, employees of Larsen & Toubro are joining hands with Environmentalist Foundation of India to restore a pond in Samuel Nagar, Manali.
This is part of a larger project of L&T to restore 105 waterbodies across Indian cities and one in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The pond in Manali in the northern part of Chennai would serve as a space to recharge the fast depleting water table in the area.
Nearly 5,000 employees have volunteered for such projects in various parts of the country, including Kanpur and Ranchi, to clear ponds and tanks, clean wells and strengthen embankments, said S.N. Subramanyan, CEO and MD, L&T, in a press release.
He said water scarcity is emerging as a serious issue. “It makes me proud that our employees have voluntarily taken up the responsibility to contribute their time and effort to a socially relevant cause,” he said.
According to S.Rajavel, senior vice-president and head, Water & Smart World Communication, L&T Construction, water conservation should be a priority for everyone and the company has taken a small step to draw attention to the issue through such projects.
