The balmy evening and star-studded sky gave a perfect start to ‘Techofes 2010,’ the annual inter-college cultural fest of Anna University, here on Sunday.

The four-day programme, with high-wattage performances, got under way with a special screening of Aayirathil Oruvan. Director Selvaraghavan who inaugurated the event kept the energy levels high with his talk.

“College years are the best part of your life. Make the most out of it and also make sure you perform well in academics,” he said.

Urging the students to identify their talents and pursue their career in the way they wanted it to be, he said: “It is important to sustain your interest in whatever you do. Short-term passion will not help much in life.”

University Vice-Chancellor P. Mannar Jawahar said cultural events gave students a chance to display their talent and build their confidence level.

He said the students must come forward and participate actively in all events.

Many of the students who had registered their names for a host of competitions were busy with last-minute preparations on Sunday.

Nearly 100 colleges are participating in the cultural event. The four-day fest will feature competitions, including pencil sketching, Wii gaming, face painting, dance, arts and crafts, vocals, cooking, jewellery designing, vegetable carving, treasure hunt, spell bee, tattoo making, clay modelling, hair-do and mehndi.

Light music performance will be the main event on Tuesday. The curtains will come down with a choreo nite on Wednesday.
