Lorry driver crushed to death

In a freak accident, a lorry driver was crushed to death in Tambaram, after he got down and tried to place a boulder under the wheels of his vehicle, in an attempt to stop it.

The police identified the victim as Murugan, 43, a native of Vempakkam village in Thiruvannamalai district. He was driving his lorry, laden with leather goods, from Ranipet to a factory in Nagalkeni, near Chromepet.

When the lorry was nearing the destination, he was not able to stop his vehicle due to a brake failure. He then jumped from the vehicle and attempted to place a boulder under its wheel, to stop it. But the vehicle ran over him, and he died on the spot. The lorry stopped after ramming a compound wall of a private firm.

The Chromepet police have registered a case and are investigating.
