A week ago, the small roundabout at the intersection of Link Road and Anna Main Road in Nesapakkam got damaged with a tanker ramming into it while taking a right turn. It’s necessary to have the roundbout repaired at the earliest as following the accident, a lamp post with three LED lamps located there is now on shaky ground. In strong winds, there is a real possibility of the pole falling.

The intersection witnesses heavy traffic as Link Road connects Ramapuram with K.K. Nagar via Anna Main Road.

“Many motorists don’t notice the damage at the roundabout. If the post falls, there can be an accident causing injury to road users,” says K. Vinoth, a resident of Virugambakkam.

Besides this, their is the problem of poor view at the intersection.

A public convenience and a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor outlet located near the roundabout prevent motorists from having a clear view of oncoming vehicles at the intersection.

Therefore, a lot needs to be done to make this intersection safer. The 300-metre-long and 18-metre-wide Link Road was opened to traffic last August. The stretch was created with the aim of decongesting Pillaiyar Koil Street, Bazaar Road and First Main Road in Nesapakkam.

The roundabout was also built as a safety measure.

“Steps will be taken to strengthen the foundation of the roundabout at the earliest,” says a Corporation official.
