Kancheepuram Collector warns of action against people polluting environment

Stern action will be taken against those hoarding waste plastic and rubbish, Kancheepuram Collector P. Ponnaiah said here on Saturday. He was inspecting dengue prevention initiatives undertaken at the St. Thomas Mount block, Moovarasampet.

The Collector ordered issuance of notices to a private shopping complex, a marriage hall and a couple of residents who were dumping waste on the roads. A fine of ₹1.11 lakh was imposed on the violators. Action will continue if the violators do not take corrective measures within the next few days, an official from the St. Thomas Mount Panchayat Union said.

Residents complained to Mr. Ponnaiah about shortage of staff to handle the huge volume of garbage generated from the Moovarasampet panchayat. The Collector assured them that he would post more workers. He asked the officials to issue notices to those who dump waste on Mosque Street, Sabapathy Nagar First Street.
