At the Officers Training Academy (OTA) on Sunday, actor Kamal Haasan recounted his association with them and credited the Academy for having played a major part in making the army sequences in Vishwaroopam 2 look realistic.

“The sequences featuring the army in the film turned out so well not just because of good actors, but thanks to the training and guidance that the OTA helped us with. I’ve had a long association with them and had taken training here even when I was preparing to shoot Marudhanayakam ,” the actor said.

Mr. Haasan and Pooja Kumar, the female lead of Vishwaroopam 2 interacted with cadets and other people from OTA where a special screening of the movie was organised. Mr. Haasan had tweeted in December 2017 that they had shot a few sequences at the Academy and had said that OTA Chennai made the nation and him proud. “Even though I’ve only been here to train for short periods, I always learnt a lot and my heart is filled with pride any time I step into the campus,” he said.

The day incidentally marked 59 years of the actor in films as his debut movie, Kalathur Kanamma, released on August 12 in 1960. “I thank my fans for ensuring that I’m still acting in films. I’m happy with the response to Vishwaroopam 2 and my fans are happy with the movie as well,” Mr. Haasan said. When asked if he would make more movies based on the army, Mr. Haasan said that while he had several ideas and stories, he would rope in other actors.

Vishwaroopam 2 , a sequel to the 2013 film Vishwaroopam released on Friday.

Stating that there should be more interest among people towards joining the Army, Mr. Haasan said that he hoped to see more youth come forward to enrol in the Army and serve the country. “There are several opportunities for them. If my cinema and my encouragement does push them in the right direction, I will be most happy,” the actor said.
