Juvenile kills neighbour

The Secretariat Colony Police apprehended a 17-year-old youth who had stabbed his neighbour, a 31-year-old woman, in Nammalvarpet.

The deceased, Parimala, was living alone as her husband died a few years ago while her son was studying in a boarding school.

The assailant was a school dropout and lived on the first floor of the same building . The police said he had an affair with Parimala and when he visited her on Friday, she sent him away. In a fit of anger, he stabbed her with a knife and fled the scene.

The police lodged the juvenile in a special correctional home.

Accidental murder

Another murder was reported in Pulianthoppe. The deceased, Chennayan, 38, of Asirvadhapuram a construction labourer, was sitting near a noon-meal centre when he threw a liquor bottle he had been drinking from, at Lokanathan, 54, who was passing by. Lokanathan retaliated by throwing back a brick. at Chennayan. Chennayan’s brother who came to the spot rushed him to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The Basin Bridge police arrested Lokanthan and remanded him in judicial custody.
