Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will deliver her pre-election address at two places in R.K. Nagar on Monday, a statement issued by the party headquarters said.
Announcing her campaign schedule in the north Chennai constituency ahead of the June 27 by-election, it said she will address the public at Tiruvottiyur High Road junction and Ennore High Road.
Ms. Jayalalithaa, who is widely expected to win the election with almost all opposition parties except the CPI boycotting it, will cover several localities, including Kasimedu, Vaidyanathan Salai and Manali Salai.
The election and the Chief Minister’s candidacy have raised expectations in the urban electorate which grapples with several challenges pertaining to civic facilities, infrastructure and pollution.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has decided to deploy 10 companies of the Central Armed Police Force for the by-poll, a press release said.
While five companies, including the BSF and CRPF, were deployed with effect from Thursday, the remaining five companies would be deployed from June 23, to ensure conduct of free and fair election, a press release from the Chief Electoral Officer said.
