Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has moved criminal defamation charges against DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and the editor of Tamil weekly Ananda Vikatan for allegedly publishing defamatory articles against her.

City Public Prosecutor (CPP) M.L. Jegan filed the cases on behalf of the Chief Minister before the Principal Sessions Court here on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Jegan, the DMK leader, in his party’s newspaper Murasoli dated November 21, published a report criticising the “achievements” of the AIADMK government in the last four years. Alleging that the contents of the report were defamatory per se, the petitioner sought action against Mr. Karunanidhi and the Tamil daily’s editor, printer and publisher S. Selvam.

Similarly, a separate petition has been moved against R. Kannan, Editor of Anantha Vikatan and its printer Madhavan for publishing a news article in the issue dated November 21-27 captioned ‘ Manthri-Thanthri' allegedly maligning the reputation of the Chief Minister.
