Suspects who kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl five months ago, before brutally murdering her in a village near Pallipattu, were arrested, said the Tiruvallur district police. Further interrogation is on.
A senior police officer said, “We have registered a case under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) and apprehended a few persons. The investigation is on to find out the level of involvement of each suspect.”
The girl who went to school on September 7, 2018, did not return home. Her father lodged a complaint with the Pothaturpet police.
Last Sunday, a few persons who were working in a sugarcane field, stumbled upon a skeleton, half-buried in sand near a canal. It was partially dug up by dogs. A school uniform, a set of anklets, a earring, a slipper and a ring were found at the spot and her parents confirmed that those were their daughter’s belongings.
Special team
A special team constituted under the DSP, Tiruttani, apprehended five persons including the prime accused, the victim’s relative, and questioned them. The main suspect kidnapped the girl and raped her in a shed on a farm.
The girl was confined there and sexually assaulted repeatedly by the others. She was murdered and her body was buried in the field.
