Interim protection to Murugadoss extended

The Madras High Court on Thursday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to film director A.R. Murugadoss in a police case booked against him for having criticised government freebies in his Vijay-starrer Sarkar.

Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan directed the Chennai city police not to arrest him till December 20.

The direction was issued on an anticipatory bail petition filed by the director even before the registration of the First Information Report on the basis of a complaint lodged by an advocate clerk G. Devarajan.

According to the complainant, incorporating scenes of people burning government freebies in the film amounted to sedition.

The director had filed a plea to quash the FIR and it is expected to be listed for hearing before Justice N. Anand Venkatesh on Friday.
