A routine patrol by the Secretariat Colony police inspector came as a blessing to a pregnant woman.

E. Rajeshwari, the inspector, and head constables Selvaraj and Rajesekhar were patrolling the area around 2.30 a.m. on Sunday, when she spotted a woman walking along the Konnur High Road.

A closer look revealed that the woman was in tears.

Upon enquiring, they found that her daughter Sheela was nine-months pregnant and was experiencing labour pain.

Call for help

She told the inspector that her daughter was stranded as the ambulance staff could not enter the narrow lane in which her house was located. Ms. Rajeshwari brought Sheela to the main road in her patrol vehicle.

She was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where she delivered a baby girl. The family thanked the inspector for the timely help.
