Initiative to curb accidents on ECR

To check drunk driving and overspeeding, the State Transport Authority, Regional Transport Offices and Chennai Traffic police on Saturday jointly monitored vehicles on East Coast Road in Akkarai.

“It was an initiative to curb the number of accidents on East Coast Road during holidays,” said K.Mohan, Regional Transport Officer (Chennai South).

“Portable laser speed guns were used to determine the speed of the vehicles between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m,” he said, adding that the initiative was conducted on the instructions of Transport Commissioner S.Murugaia and under the supervision of Joint Transport Commissioner Frank Stephen Louis.

Notices issued

Notices were issued to 63 vehicles and Rs.19, 250 was collected as spot fines. Officials of the RTOs of Chengalpattu and Meenambakkam also participated.
