Three arrested under POCSO in city

The police on Tuesday arrested three persons, including a woman, under the POCSO Act in different parts of the city.

Sanjana, who ran a tuition centre in T. Nagar and her friend Balaji were arrested for sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl. In Avadi, Balasubramaniam alias Ravi Sharma, a 53-year-old Bharatanatyam dancer was arrested for molesting an 11-year-old girl.

A case was registered at the Avadi All-Women police station.

‘Unruly passenger’ made to deplane

An “unruly passenger” on a Spicejet flight from Chennai to Colombo had to be deboarded early on Wednesday, after he reportedly created problems inside the aircraft, sources said. The flight, which was to depart at 12.10 a.m., left only by 12.45 a.m., sources added.

When boarding for the flight began, the passenger, Gunasena, who was seated, suddenly became violent and began abusing passengers. The crew had to deboard him from the aircraft, sources said. The flight then left after a half-hour delay.

Smuggling suspects whisked away by gang

Two Chennai Customs officials have lodged a complaint, stating that two women, detained for smuggling, and taken to a hospital for an x-ray, were whisked away on Tuesday by a 10-member gang. Two women who arrived from Sri Lanka on Tuesday were detained by Customs officials. Since they did not have any contraband in their luggage, the two were taken to a hospital for an x-ray. A 10-member gang intercepted them and took the two women in the car.
