IMH patients go on an outing to Mamallapuram

Institute plans to make it a routine

The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) is planning to make outings a routine for its patients with the help of sponsors.

On Saturday, a second batch of patients were taken on a trip to various places, including Mamallapuram. Forty six patients — 16 women and 30 men — accompanied by 16 staff members visited temples in Injambakkam and Kanathur, the light house, beach and the Five Rathas in Mamallapuram.

Last month, 50 patients from the institute had visited Marina and Elliot’s beaches.

“With this trip, a patient’s wish to visit Mamallapuram was fulfilled. In fact, those who went on the trip last month were very happy. We felt good, seeing them happy,” said P. Poorna Chandrika, director of IMH.

Seeking sponsorship

The trip was sponsored by Chennai Cargo Friends Association, she said.

“If more such sponsors come forward to help us organise such trips, these outings will be made a routine for the patients,” she added.
