‘Ilaiyaraaja 75’ to take place as planned

HC nixes last ditch attempt againt the concert

Though last-ditch attempts were made on Friday to obtain an injunction from a Division Bench of the Madras High Court restraining the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) from conducting ‘Ilaiyaraaja 75’ — a concert organised by the council in Chennai — the Bench refused to entertain such a plea.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and Abdul Quddhose declined to stay the operation of an order passed by Justice K. Kalyanasundaram on Thursday permitting the council to go ahead with its plan to conduct the concert and submit the accounts of expediture during the general body meet on March 3.

The appeal was preferred by J. Sathish Kumar, one of the members of the council. Hailing the contribution of Ilaiyaraaja to the music industry, Justice Kirubakaran said that in all fairness, such cases should have been avoided since the concert was being organised to felicitate him and his contributions to Indian cinema.
