IIT-M alumni pledge₹14 crore for a facelift


Announcement made on reunion day

Alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology- Madras have pledged ₹14 crore to improve the institute’s infrastructure.

The announcement was made as part of the reunion day held on Friday. The year marks the silver jubilee reunion for the 1993 batch, which has pledged ₹12 crore. The 1983 batch has pledged ₹2 crore.

Renuka Chakravarthy of the 1993 batch said 126 members — nearly 50% of the batch — were participating in the reunion.

The intention was to support undergraduate research opportunities and the faculty with start-up funds, she said.

Over 300 alumni participated in the event in which the institute director, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, announced the 12 distinguished alumnus awardees for 2019.

The awardees include two alumni from the 1970 batch and one from the 1994 batch.
