Hundreds pay homage to fire accident victim

Hundreds of people paid their last respects to the Kurangani Hills fire accident victim from Rajakilpakkam in Chennai on Friday morning.

M. Anuvidya, 25, who was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai with 90% burns, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.

Former South Chennai MP C. Rajendran, former chairman of Sembakkam Municipality G.M. Santhakumar and Tambaram MLA S.R. Raja visited her home in Rajakilpakkam and offered their condolences.

Anuvidya, a teacher, had participated in triathlon and marathon events and was a swimmer, family members said.

Solatium given

Meanwhile, Kancheepuram Collector P. Ponnaiah handed over the solatium of ₹4 lakh to the family members of Punitha Balaji, a native of Sriperumbudur taluk, who was killed in the forest fire.
