Burglars broke into an apartment in West Mambalam on Sunday night and escaped with 40 sovereigns of jewellery.

According to police, R. Mohanram, a computer engineer, lived in the apartment, located on the first floor of a complex. On October 5, he and his family went out of town on a holiday.

On Sunday at around 10.30 p.m., the family returned and found the front door’s lock broken. Inside, the almirah was open and around 40 sovereigns of gold were missing. He immediately alerted the police. Officers claimed that Mohanram had locked the almirah but left the key in it.

A case has been registered and a probe is on. However, a police officer with the Ashok Nagar police station said he was not aware of the incident.
