The Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) from across the State gathered in the city on Friday to stage a demonstration to draw the State government’s attention towards their demands. They have been demanding regularisation of jobs and a consolidated monthly pay of ₹18,000.

ASHAs, who primarily work in hilly areas, are involved in maternal and child healthcare. They do not get a fixed salary. There have been complaints that the monthly consolidated pay of ₹2,000 fixed by the Centre was not being paid regularly while the incentive had been pending for several months.

One of their main demands was regularising the jobs of 2,700 ASHAs work in the State and a monthly consolidated pay of ₹18,000. They are demanding COVID-19 assistance of ₹15,000 and payment of pending incentive amount immediately, according to the Tamil Nadu ASHA Workers Association.
