The Madras High Court on Monday directed the police to apprehend retired IAS officer D. Vivekanandan and his son Kavin Vivek for allegedly taking money to the tune of Rs. 1.3 crore from 13 persons on the promise of getting them jobs at the Secretariat.
Hearing a plea by one of the victims of the racket, A. Ganapathy, Justice P.N. Prakash, in an interim order, noted that a non-bailable warrant against the accused was pending and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anna Nagar) to monitor the case and file a status report after three weeks.
Noting that the warrant could not be executed, the judge said, “It appears there is some pressure on the police from bureaucrats lobby to torpedo the main case itself.”
