The Madras High Court on Tuesday bid farewell to Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh, who has been transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Advocate General Vijay Narayan delivered the farewell address on behalf of the bar and wished the judge a fruitful tenure in his new assignment.

Mr. Justice Ramesh was the second judge in seniority in the Madras High Court after Chief Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani. His place will now be filled by Justice Vineet Kothari, who hails from Rajasthan but is now serving as the fourth judge in seniority in the High Court of Karnataka.

As per a government notification, Mr. Justice Kothari was expected to assume office here before November 24. In the meantime, Mr. Justice Ramesh is slated to assume office in Madhya Pradesh and the last event he attended here on Tuesday was the Seniors Day celebrations by Madras Bar Association.

He and Justice S. Manikumar of the Madras High Court felicitated about 40 advocates who had crossed the age of 80 and two of them, who had touched 90. MBA secretary V.R. Kamalanathan said the event was organised to highlight the importance of learning the art of advocacy from seniors.

“Our profession depends a lot on seniors whom we emulate. Of late, we find that the young lawyers do not accord the respect the seniors deserve. Therefore, we at the MBA thought of organising a day for the seniors and felicitating all those who had a flourishing practice when we entered the Bar decades ago,” he added.

Sitting as well as retired judges of the High Court too participated in the event.
