Hand over OSR land: Mayor

December 28, 2013 01:12 am | Updated 01:12 am IST - CHENNAI:

Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Friday asked all property owners, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, to hand over OSR (open space reservation) land to Chennai Corporation.

Responding to a councillor’s question, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said the DMK councillors should urge the party to hand over the OSR land near Anna Arivalayam to the Corporation. “A total of 57 plots of OSR land have been handed over to the Chennai Corporation between 2006 and 2011. We have asked zonal officers to protect the land,” said Mr. Duraisamy.

Last year, the Council decided to initiate measures for retrieving OSR land from the headquarters of DMK. The Council also requested that the State government cancel the order which provided exemption to the DMK trust from handing over OSR land to the civic body.

According to a report by the civic body, the GO issued in 1988 permitted the DMK trust to maintain 1,893 square metres of OSR land abutting Anna Salai under the provisions of Section 113 of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971. The approval for construction of the building was given in 1980.
