This festive season, post greeting cards with personalised stamps to relatives and friends.

The department of posts is offering a facility to design stamps that could make greetings unique.

In modern times, when bulk mails and e-mails have turned festive greeting into a formality, this is an effort to add personal touch to greetings and also popularise ‘My stamps,’ launched a few months ago, said an official of the postal department.

Staff members at post offices across the city are busy booking orders for ‘My stamps’ that will feature photograph of an individual or the logo of an institution or corporate body.

Officials of the philatelic bureau said customers need to provide a photograph and identity proof along with the order form.

Mervin Alexander, postmaster general, Chennai city region, said patronage for ‘My stamps’ is growing in the city. Nearly 5,000 sheets of stamps, worth Rs. 15 lakh, have been despatched in six months. Each sheet comprising 12 postage stamps costs Rs. 300. The department is also gearing up to receive and deliver greetings cards this month and special teams are being dedicated for speedy sorting and delivery of greeting cards.

“Last year, we handled 62 lakh greeting cards in the State. Of these, nearly 12.5 lakh were received and delivered in Chennai alone,” said Mr. Alexander.

‘My stamps’ will be despatched within two days of the order. Customers can contact Philatelic Bureau, Anna Road Head Post Office, on 28543199 for details.
