The State government plans to launch ‘Sorkuvai’, a Tamil word bank that would link Tamil words with English words according to their meanings, K.Pandiarajan, Minister of Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture and Archaeology said here recently.
He presented awards to three Tamil scholars at the Mahakavi Bharathiar’s birth anniversary celebrations organised by Shriram Group of Companies.
The awardees — Mohan, former Professor of Tamil, Madurai Kamaraj University; Vijayalakshmi Ramasamy, former Professor of Tamil, Stella Maris College, and Nayambu Arivudai Nambi, retired Tamil teacher — were presented with cash awards.
Book released
‘Bharathiyar Bhadilgal-100’, a book authored by Avvai Arul, Director of Translation, Government of Tamil Nadu, was also released on the occasion. The Minister appreciated the efforts of the firm in recognising Tamil scholars.
While senior advocate K. Ravi elaborated on the words coined by Bharathiar, Swarnamaalya Ganesh spoke on dancing nuances of Bharathiar’s songs. R.Thyagarajan, chairman, Shriram Group of Companies and G.Sunderesan, director of Shriram Group of Companies were present.
