Government doctors on Tuesday boycotted outpatient services across the State to press their demand for addressing the disparity in pay by reviewing government order 354.
The Joint Action Committee-Government Doctors Association (JAC-GDA) revived its protests, after the State government delayed the implementation of the recommendations of the Working Group.
They have been demanding proper implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression and review of GO 354 that was pending since last year.
After boycotting meetings, maternal death audits and reporting, they boycotted out-patient services in all medical college hospitals and attached institutions, district headquarters hospitals, taluk hospitals and primary health centres. “We will wait for three days for the State government to come up with a favourable decision. If it fails to, we will boycott elective surgeries and student classes from December 8. We will boycott outpatient services again on December 12, followed by a token strike on December 13,” said A. Ramalingam, State member of JAC-GDA.
JAC-GDA will strike work for three days starting December 27 if the government failed to arrive at a decision, he added.
Services unaffected
Outpatient services were unaffected by the boycott as hospitals in the city managed with non-service post-graduates.
Meanwhile, Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan has urged the State government to hold talks with the government doctors who boycotted outpatient services.
At Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, there was sufficient strength of non-service PGs and professors, who handled the out patients numbering around 8,500, an authority said.
