Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan had a sportive role to play on Sunday. Donning the blue colour, he led ‘Team India’ in a friendly cricket match against an Australian business delegation team, captained by Stephen Bali, Mayor Blacktown City Council, in Chennai.

The Austrade (Australian Trade and Investment Commission), in collaboration with the Centre for Sports Science (CSS), a unit of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), conducted the match on the Sri Ramachandra Institute ground.

The Australian side featured Mr. Bali; Nathan Rees, former premier, New South Wales; members of the civic and business delegation from down under; and members of the Australian Consulate, Chennai.

The Indian team, led by Mr. Sengottaiyan, included Mohammed Asif Ali, Dewan, Prince of Arcot; Gagan Narang, Indian shooter; P.V. Vijayaraghavan, vice-chancellor, SRIHER; S. Arumugam, director, Centre for Sports Science, SRIHER; Ishari K. Ganesh from the Vels Educational Institutions and other senior business leaders.

The 10-over match started around 10 a.m. The Indian team won the toss and chose to bat first. The match went on till 1.30 p.m. and ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 72 runs.
