Rotary Club of Chennai Towers (RCCT) has set up a 10-bed free dialysis facility at the Greater Chennai Corporation’s Urban Primary Health Centre at Retteri.

According to a press release, P. Madhusudhan Reddy, deputy commissioner (health), Greater Chennai Corporation, and Srinivasan, immediate past district governor, District 3232, inaugurated the facility on Monday.

“We have set up the free dialysis centre at the Urban Primary Health Centre at Retteri as there are no government facilities available in the vicinity for the poor in need of dialysis. They have to go to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital or Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for dialysis,” said Umapathy, chairman, Dialysis Project, RCCT.

The facility would be managed by TANKER Foundation, he said, adding, “There are 10 dialysis machines at the centre. It is fully air-conditioned. We have installed a lift. A reverse osmosis plant has also been installed.” RCCT has established the facility at a cost of ₹one crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Reddy said that they were going to open similar dialysis centres in Valasaravakkam, Tiruvottiyur and Perungudi. Among others, Urmish Mehta, president of RCCT, Georgi Abraham, founder-trustee and Latha Kumaraswami, managing trustee, TANKER Foundation were present, the release said.
