Four candidates pull out of by-poll

Four independent candidates who had earlier filed their nominations to contest the R.K. Nagar by-election withdrew from the fray on Saturday.

Following this a total of 28 candidates, including AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Communist Party of India’s (CPI) candidate C. Mahendran will contest the by-poll to be held on June 27.

Days after Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others were acquitted in the disproportionate assets case, R.K. Nagar MLA P. Vetrivel of the AIADMK, resigned paving way for his leader.
