Fisherman murders wife

A 30-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital after being assaulted by her husband succumbed to injuries on Sunday night.

According to the police, Govindaraj, a fisherman, is a resident of Thideer Nagar, Kasimedu. Eight years ago, he married Lakshmi and the couple have an 8-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter. Govindaraj assaulted his wife in an inebriated condition, the police said.

On July 19, he allegedly hit her with an iron rod and left the house. Neighbours rushed her to the Stanley Hospital. Based on a complaint, Govindaraj was arrested for attempt to murder. As Govindaraj;s wife succumbed to injuries on Sunday and the case was altered to murder.
