A fire broke out at the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Manali refinery on Monday.

According to sources, the blaze started in a few containers of tar at 11 a.m. on the campus far from the oil storage facilities. Thick smoke emanated and triggered panic among the employees.

The staff of the Fire Department attached to CPCL rushed to the spot and tried to contain the fire. In the meantime, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services from Manali and Tiruvottiyur joined them. The fire was extinguished but a few containers were gutted during the incident.

CPCL officials said there was no danger to the employees or machinery as the fire broke out at a remote spot.
