Two elderly women, youth who were asleep killed on the spot; motorcyclist held

Uma (50), one of the flower sellers, who was sleeping on pavement at George Town in Chennai where three persons were ran over by a motorcycle in the early hours of Wednesday, told The Hindu : “I was rattled by a loud noise and woke up to see a sight I will not forget for the rest of my life. The two old women, Chinnapponnu (70), and Sakunthala (65), were lying with their faces smashed beyond recognition.”

“Appu Kannayiram (24), the other vicim, was sleeping on a fibre cot which the motorcycle rammed after running over the two women.

He was thrown off in the impact and fell on to the mangled iron rods of the bed, and died immediately,” said Minima, another eyewitness.

Sadhik (19), who holds only a learner’s driving licence, works as a meat dealer at Chintadripet.

Fun ride

Riding pillion were his friends, Mansoor (18), an electrician, and a 17-year old, who assists his father’s business in the same area. The motorcycle belonged to the juvenile, and the trio were out on a fun ride.
