Open Office Week (OOW) 2019, a week-long exhibition of architectural practices in 25 architecture studios, began in Chennai on Wednesday.

The Chennai Architecture Foundation has finalised a list of 25 architecture studios in the city. “All these offices will share drawings, models, sketches, prototypes and other materials that can articulate their processes,” said a spokesperson of CAF.

“It will not interrupt anyone’s work schedule. OOW will remain open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the week. Architects and students can get an insight into the workings of different practices in a short duration,” he explained.

CAF has so far functioned as a platform to showcase a diverse set of practices. It has invited a cross-section of participants to its events to share the joy of living and looking at good buildings, acknowledging the importance of quality architectural work and impressing upon them the value of design. CAF has attempted to connect with the city and its people better.

CAF hopes that visits to various offices will help people appreciate not just the process of production, but also help students and people understand and interact with designers in their spaces. “It is about creating an opportunity to tell the story of architecture and its practice,” the spokesperson added.
