Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development C.V. Ganesan on Thursday held a review meeting with the officials of the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health.
At the meeting, Mr. Ganesan urged officials to ensure the safety, health and welfare of the contract workers working in factories and to take steps to make contract workers as permanent employees. Enforcement officers should ensure seating arrangements be made for all workers so far obliged to work in a standing position, he said.
He emphasised that there should not be any pending inspection since the department has been online. Enforcement officers should not hesitate to act against the erring managements for any violations at the time of inspection.
He instructed the officers to send the removal proposal for the closed factories and effective action shall be taken to register the new factories. He promised to provide infrastructure for the officers working in the department.
Labour Welfare and Skill Development Secretary R. Kirlosh Kumar and the Director of Industrial Safety and Health K. Jagathesan were present.
