A guard employed by the Southern Railways, who was on duty on an EMU, was injured after miscreants allegedly threw stones at him.

Randeerkumar (34) was on board a Chennai Beach-Tambaram train. As it was nearing Pallavaram around 4.45 p.m. on Wednesday, he suffered severe chest pain.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Pallavaram, from where he was discharged later in the day.

In his complaint, Mr. Randeerkumar said he was hit on the chest by a stone. He informed the Pallavaram station master of the incident.

Another guard was deputed to the Pallavaram railway station from Tambaram for the rest of the journey. The EMU was detained at Pallavaram station for 25 minutes due to this incident and services were delayed.

Government Railway Police (GRP) are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
