Elect CM unanimously: TMC

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - CHENNAI:

Former Union Minister and senior leader of the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) S.R. Balasubrmaniam on Sunday called upon political parties to stay away from contesting in the by-poll to the R.K. Nagar constituency to pave way for the unanimous election of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Even though TMC leader G.K. Vasan has not openly spelt out his stand on the issue, Mr Balasubramaniam’s statement in support of Ms Jayalalithaa is a clear proof that the party is ready to work with the ruling party in the future.

“Let us create a good precedent by staying away from the by-polls. It will be an intelligent move,” said Mr. Balasubramaniam, recalling how late Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran came forward to support the Congress in the Tirupattur by-election to enable Congress candidate Valmiki to win the election.

“He campaigned for the Congress candidate in the constituency even though the party did not make any formal request,” he said.
