Education as an instrument for ‘societal change’ should develop cognitive capabilities, tolerance to withstand multicultural impulses and understanding of diversity among students, said Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the golden jubilee celebrations of Chinmaya Vidyalaya at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre.
Speaking about how education should prepare the younger generation to face the complex realities of globalisation, Mr. Purohit said education should also inculcate moral values.
“Education is a dynamic teacher-student interactive process in which teaching needs to be given greater emphasis so as to make it yield maximized learning outcomes. A teacher should act as a friend, philosopher and guide and help students to discover their academic preferences, aptitude, natural inclinations and talents and nurture them,” he said. “It is also a matter of satisfaction to see that Chinmaya Vidyalaya has grown over the years into a reputed institution,” he added.
S.P. Thyagarajan, Chairman of the Chinmaya group of schools said that over the last 50 years, the school had ensured that they not only imparted values to students but involved the parents as well.
O.V. Nambiar, Zonal Director, CCMT educational cell, Srinivasan, Regional Officer, CBSE, Chennai, and Jaishankar Unninathan, Honorary correspondent of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kilpauk, were present at the event.
