EC appoints Ashutosh Shukla as DGP

The Election Commission (EC), in a late-night order, appointed IPS officer Ashutosh Shukla as the Director General of Police (Elections) in Tamil Nadu.

An order issued by the EC to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu stated that Mr. Shukla would be taking charge of election-related works involving the police immediately. The order also stated that the State government should file a compliance report with the Commission before 1 p.m. on Thursday. Police officials in the State would be reporting to Mr. Shukla, who was heading the Prisons Department.

The order stated that DGP T.K. Rajendran would not be associated in any manner with the election process and shall not communicate with SPs, DIGs, IGs or other officials until the Lok Sabha election in the State was completed.
