DVAC books 22 for siphoning funds

The Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has booked a case against former vice-president of a village panchayat and 21 others for allegedly misappropriating funds to the tune of ₹45 lakh.

Based on the vigilance report which was initiated in pursuance of confidential information, DVAC officials booked a case against Kanniappan of Sirumangadu village panchayat near Sriperumpudur.

During 2015-16 and 2016-17, Kanniappan allegedly created false bills and manipulated records to show that various works had been carried out. He was reportedly aided by C. Velmurugan, then panchayat secretary, other officials, contractors and private individuals.
