Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital opened a new facility in Velachery on Saturday.
To mark the inauguration, the hospital announced that eye care surgeries would be performed free of cost for 100 persons below the poverty line, according to a release. Taking part in the inauguration, actor Keerthy Suresh, stressed on the importance of eye donation and said there was a need for more people to pledge their eyes to help bring about a positive change in someone’s life
Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr. Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital, said around 80% of visual impairment in India was either preventable or curable. He said that children face increasing vision problems due to use of gadgets and digital electronic screens. Due to over usage, children are more prone to developing develop dry eyes that can affect their vision. This could increase the progression of short-sightedness to 40% in schoolgoing children over the next decade, according to a recent study.
